Add Device

• Tap “Add Device" or the "+" in the upper right corner of the home screen to enter device connection page.

• There are three connection methods (EZ Mode, Auto Scan and AP Mode) explained below.

• CE Smart Home devices require connection to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.

Add Device > EZ Mode (Default Method)

EZ or Normal Mode is the default and connects via your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel only. (5GHz Wi-Fi is not supported, so if you have one network name that includes both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz, please use AP mode). EZ Mode allows you to connect several CE Smart devices at the same time.

1.  First ensure that you are connected to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network on your mobile device with the CE Smart App that you are using to add devices.

2.  Open the app and tap "+" in the top right corner of the home screen to enter device connection page and select device type.

3. Enter or confirm your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network name and password (case and space sensitive) and tap Next.

4. For EZ Mode, make sure the LED indicator on the device is flashing rapidly (2 times per second). Tap the "reset device step by step” help link in the app, or view the below for steps on how to get the device's LED indicator rapidly flashing:

How to get LED rapidly flashing for EZ Mode Connection:

Outlets/Plugs/Power Strips:

• Press and hold the Wi-Fi power button for 7-10 seconds until LED indicator begins rapidly flashing (2 times per second). If Red LED comes on upon release, press and release again to get LED rapidly flashing.

Single Pole (WF500D) Dimmer Switches:

• Slide the air gap switch to the right to power on the dimmer

• Press the dimmer switch paddle five times quickly. Press and a sixth time for 5-8 seconds and release. Wait 5 seconds upon release for the LED indicator to begin rapidly flashing.

3-Way (CWF500D-3W) Dimmer Switches:

• Slide the air gap switch to the right to power on the dimmer

• Press a hold the up or down dimmer switch paddle for 20 seconds and release. Wait 5 seconds upon release for the LED indicator to begin rapidly flashing.

5.  In the app, select tap to “Confirm indicator is rapidly blinking," click Next

6.  Device Connection Process will begin to connect device.

Device Connection Failure? Try again using AP Mode or Auto-Scan connection methods, described below:

Add Device > Auto-Scan Method

Auto Scan can discover multiple devices at once. Any devices set to rapid-flashing pairing mode will be detected when using auto-scan.

1.  First ensure that you are connected to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network on your mobile device with the CE Smart App that you are using to add devices.

2.  Set device(s) to rapid-flashing pairing mode so the LED indicator on the device is flashing 2-3x per second.

3.  Open the CE Smart App and tap the "+" button on the top right corner of the home page.

4.  At the top of the screen, Auto Scan will begin searching for nearby devices.

5.  If this is your first time using the Auto Scan connection method, the next screen will confirm access to your location as well as confirm wi-fi is enabled; you do not need Bluetooth enabled. Click on the start scanning button at the bottom. The app will then begin the process of scanning for new devices. If you’ve already enabled permissions or used the Auto Scan method previously, the app will begin the process of scanning for new devices immediately.

6.  Any devices set to rapid-flashing pairing mode will be detected and will display on the app screen in a circle-shape icon. Please be patient as it can take up to 60 seconds to detect all devices; devices may be discovered at different speeds. If your devices are not being detected, tap on the “Configure Wi-Fi” button to confirm you’re connected to your 2.4GHz network; enter your Wi-Fi password, and tap confirm to continue discovering devices.

7.  Once all new devices are discovered and displayed on the Auto Scan page, tap Next to continue the setup process (naming the device, adding to a room, etc.).

8.  After tapping Next, if adding multiple devices, all devices will be listed. Ensure all devices are selected and tap Add. This page will not display if adding only one device.

9.  On the next screen you’ll have the option to edit the name of the device(s) or assign the device(s) to a Room. To rename the device, tap the edit pencil next to the existing name. To assign the device a room, select a room from the list of Rooms shown. Device name and Room can be modified later, as well.

10.  Click Done to complete the set-up process.

Add Device > AP Mode (Access Point Mode)

In AP Mode, your device broadcasts a device name in your mobile device's Wi-Fi Networks Settings that allows the Smart device to connect to your network. If using AP mode, you must connect devices one by one. Connect via AP mode when EZ mode has failed or if you have a dual band router that has only one SSID (network name).

1.  Connect your mobile device to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

2.  Tap "+" in the upper right corner of the home screen to enter device connection page and select device type.

3. Enter or confirm your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network name and password (case and space sensitive) and tap Next.

4. In the top right corner of the next page, click on 'EZ Mode' then select 'AP Mode'.

5. Make sure the device’s indicator light is slowly flashing (1 time every 2 seconds). Tap the "Reset Device Step by Step” help link in the app, or view the below for steps on how to get the device's LED indicator slowly flashing:

How to get LED slowly flashing for AP Mode Connection:

Outlets/Plugs/Power Strips:

• Press and hold the Wi-Fi power button for 7-10 seconds until LED indicator begins rapidly flashing (2 times per second). If Red LED comes on upon release, press and release again to get LED rapidly flashing.

• Once LED is rapidly flashing, press and hold the Wi-Fi power button again for another 7-10 seconds until LED indicator begins slowly flashing (1 time every 2 seconds). (If Red LED comes on upon release, press and release again to get LED slowly flashing).

Single Pole (WF500D) Dimmer Switches:

• Slide the air gap switch to the right to power on the dimmer

• Press the dimmer switch paddle five times quickly. Press and hold a sixth time for 5-8 seconds and release. Wait 5 seconds upon release for the LED indicator to begin rapidly flashing.

• Once the LED indicator is rapidly flashing, repeat the above step to get the LED slowly flashing: press the dimmer switch paddle five times quickly. Press and hold a sixth time for 5-8 seconds and release. Wait 5 seconds upon release for the LED indicator to begin slowly flashing (1 time every 2 seconds).

• Once the LED indicator is rapidly flashing, repeat the above step to get the LED slowly flashing: press Press and hold either paddle again for 20 seconds and release. Wait 5 seconds upon release for the LED indicator to begin slowly flashing (1 time every 2 seconds).

6. Confirm the indicator is slowly blinking in the app, and click next.

7. The next page will be a message about connecting to the device hotspot, click 'go to connect' or 'connect now'.

8. You will be brought to your phone's settings, open Wi-Fi Networks and search for "SmartLife-xxxx" or "CE Smart-xxxx" and select.

9. Once connected to the SmartLife-xxxx or CE Smart-xxxx Wi-Fi network, wait 10 seconds in your phone's Wi-Fi settings page (please note: if it says "no internet connection", this is normal).

10. After 10 seconds/after seeing the no internet connection message, go back to the CE Smart App and connection should begin. If connection does not automatically begin, click the small text at the bottom of the page stating "confirm hotspot connection, next". Device connection will begin and connect device.

Not all Wi-Fi installations are the same. In the case of a failed connection, please follow the steps to try connection in AP mode. Ensure you are connecting to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Ensure you are accurately entering your Wi-Fi networks password during connection (case and space sensitive). Visit this FAQ for more information.

Troubleshooting Device Connection Failure

If your App interface failed to connect your Smart Device, it means that the network connection failed. Make sure you are connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel on your phone/tablet that is being used to connect the smart device. Ensure you typed the correct password for your 2.4GHz router band. Try connection in AP mode. If connection continues to fail, reference this article or contact us for assistance.

Network Connection Process

The App goes through the process of Connecting the Device, and displays a percentage on the connection screen while connecting. When the percentage reaches 100% the device should be successfully connected and registered to the cloud. The device default name will appear on the screen. You may rename the device by tapping the pencil icon to edit. This allows you to name your device to a better description of what the device is controlling, for example, “Living Room Lamp.” You may also assign the Device to a Room by tapping on the room name. Tap “Completed” to finish setup.

Controlling Devices

After successful configuration, connected devices will be displayed on the “Home” screen. Tap a device to access the device control screen. Tap the pencil icon located in the upper right corner of the screen to access more device settings, share the device or create a group.
